DEC 20th
Normal, IL-
From the chilly confines of CoachKs Academy with a roughly estimated 2.5M viewers on Instagram Live, Backstreet Boys continued their undefeated run through both the regular season and playoffs, winning the championship game 9-8 in extra innings over Big Boys Ball Busters. A 2-out, 2 RBI walk-off double off the bat of Drew S was the difference.
After claiming the Ks Slugger Award during regular season play, Max H was also named Playoff MVP with a scorching stat line of 14-for-26 with 9 2Bs, 2 HR and 8 RBI in three games.
Preceding the semifinal and championship games was the HR Derby where, who would have guessed, Max H took home the complimentary Ks Hat. He slugged two home runs in the final round after belting 10 in the prelims. Also advancing to the finals were Drew S (8 HR in prelims), Charlie V (8) and Kaileb H (5). Falling just short of the final round were 12U stars Cash T-R and Seyller G who both belted 4 HR in the prelims.

PLAYOFF GAME RESULTS

CHAMPIONSHIP
Game 7:  Backstreet Boys 9, Big Boys Ball Busters 8
This one was a thriller from start to finish, ending in an extra-inning W for Backstreet. Before the walk-off heroics, Big Boys dropped a 3-spot in the top half of the final inning to take a 8-5 lead on a double by Jonah R, an RBI single by Sean J, a single by Ethan K which placed runners at 1st and 3rd, an oppo slice RBI single by Jonah R making it 7-5 and a Sean J laser single which scored the 8th run. Backstreet began their comeback with a leadoff double by Max H to dead CF, just missing his third HR of the night by 1 foot. Max H advanced to third on a flyout, then scored on a Drew S 2-out single, making the score 8-6. Max H then destroyed a pitch to the LCF gap, placing runners on 2nd and 3rd. Cool as the other side of the pillow Cade C walked to the plate and tied it at 8 with a single up the middle before Drew S delivered the game winning hit, followed by a sweet bat flip.  Top Performers: (Big Boys) Jonah R 6-for-12, 2 2B, 3 RBI. Sean J 6-for-13 2B, 3 RBI. (Backstreet) Max H 7-for-9, 5 2B, 1 RBI. Cade C 5-for-10, 2B, 2 RBI. Gavin M 4-for-9, 2B, 4 RBI.

SEMIFINALS
Game 5:  Backstreet Boys 9, Renegades Red-Lynch 4
The Renegades took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd with back-to-back triples by Oliver V and Nate R, but Backstreet quickly countered with an explosive bottom half. All of their runs scored with two outs and most of the damage was done by a Max H 3-run 311’ HR to LF. When the dust had settled Backstreet plated 8 runs and took a commanding 8-1 lead into the third. The Renegades added a solo run in the 4th, cutting the lead to 8-2 and then two more in the 6th on singles by Oliver V and Collin K followed by a 2-run double by Lucas B, but it wasn’t enough to slow Backstreet who advanced to the championship game.  Top Performers: (Renegades Red) Oliver V 3-for-7, 3B. Lucas B 3-for-7, 2B, 3B, 1 RBI. (Backstreet Boys) Gavin M 7-for-10, 2B. Max H 4-for-8, 3 2B, HR, 4 RBI.

Game 6:  Big Boys Ball Busters 7, Renegades Blue-Knox 3
Big Boys scored three early runs while the Renegades countered with two in the 3rd on a single by Brody A, an RBI triple by Phillip H and an RBI single by Evan T. Cash T-R tied it in the 4th with a standup RBI triple after Phillip H led off the inning with a single. The game was still tied at 3 heading to the 6th in a matchup of the #2 seed Big Boys and #3 seed RB-K. Big Boys then iced the game with a 4-run bottom of the 6th as Ethan K got it started with a single to CF, followed by a loud Jonah R double to LCF, followed by another double, this one 261’ to the oppo gap off the bat of Sean J, making the score 5-3. Jonah R then ripped another 2-bagger to LF and Sean J destroyed the next pitch up the middle, scoring the 7th and final run for Big Boys.  Top Performers: (Renegades Blue) Brody A 3-for-6, 2B. Cash T-R 2-for-7, 3B, RBI. (Big Boys) Sean J 7-for-11, 3 2B, 2 RBI. Ethan K 5-for-10, 1 RBI. Jonah R 4-for-10, 2 2B, 2 RBI.

QUARTERFINALS
Game 1: Renegades Red-Lynch 5, Bat Attitudes-Hornbrook 1
In the opening quarterfinal matchup Bat Attitudes scored first on a top of the 1st Bodey K RBI single, but it was all Renegades Red from there. They tied it a 1 in the bottom of the 6th when Nate R led off with a triple and Oliver V sent him home with an RBI single. They added two insurance runs in the 7th via a 2-run triple by Lucas B, then tacked on another pair in the 8th with RBI singles from Lucas B and Oliver V.  Top Performers: (Bat Attitudes) Bodey K 5-for-9, 2B, 1 RBI. Judah D 5-for-10.  (Renegades Red) Lucas B 7-for-8, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI.

Game 2: Renegades Blue-Knox 3, Making Trax 1
Regular season batting champion Evan C led off his postseason with a 2-out RBI single, giving Making Trax an early 1-0 lead. Renegades Blue-Knox tried to answer right away with a leadoff triple off the bat of Cash T-R that one-hopped the CF wall, but he was left stranded. However, it was a different story in the bottom of the 3rd when Cash T-R led off with another knock, this one a single to CF. Phillip H and Evan T both singled as well, loading the bases. Cash T-R then scored himself from 3rd base with an RBI single to LF, tying the game at 1. Trax had something brewing in the 4th after a Lincoln S lead off single and a big double off the bat of Sellyer G gave them runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but both runners were left stranded. Trax repeated this in the 8th on a Seyller G leadoff single and a Connor E double to LF, but once again failed to plate a run. RB-K took this momentum into the bottom half of the 8th, scoring a pair of runs for a 3-1 advantage. Both runs scored on a Cash T-R triple the opposite way, a long fly ball hit well over the RFers head. Trax attempted one last rally in the top of the 9th with hard hit ground ball singles off the bats of Seyller G and Connor E, but couldn’t score and RB-K held on for the 3-1 W.  Top Performers: (Making Trax) Seyller G 5-for-9, 2B. Connor E 4-for-9, 2B, 3B, 1 RBI. (Renegades Blue) Evan T 6-for-11. Cash T-R 7-for-9, 2B, 2 3B, 3 RBI.

Game 3: Backstreet Boys 6, Renegades Blue-Schlipf 2
A scoreless pitcher’s duel was broken up in the top of the 6th by Renegades Blue-Schlipf on a 2-out double off the bat of Sal G. The blast scored a pair and gave RB-S a 2-0 lead. However, the Backstreet Boys answered in the bottom of the 7th when regular season slugging champion Max H led off with a 301’ bomb to LCF, cutting the lead in half. Cade C followed the blast with a bloop, but was left stranded and the score remained 2-1. In the bottom half of the 8th Backstreet had the big inning that they have become known for this season. Feeding off of each other their bats exploded. Cade C led off with a double, Gavin M lined out, Drew S singled to LF putting runners on 1st and 3rd, then a Max H blooper to LF tied the game at 2. But, Backstreet was not done. Cade C smoked a laser through the 2nd baseman’s chest, giving the Boys a 3-2 lead. Gavin M connected for a SF, making it 4-2, a Drew S blooper made it 5-2 and a Max H blast to the LF wall provided the final run in a 6-2 Backstreet W.  Top Performers: (Renegades Blue- Schlipf) Sal G 7-for-10, 3 2B, 2 RBI. Owen K 4-for-11. (Backstreet Boys) Gavin M 4-for-8, 1 RBI. Cade C 4-for-9, 2 2B, 1 RBI. Max H 3-for-9, 2B, HR, 3 RBI.

Game 4: Big Boys Ball Busters 16, Battitudes-Hackman 12
After three relatively quiet and low-scoring quarterfinal games, the final Q matchup was a high-scoring, smashfest which saw 47 hits between the two clubs. The game-breaker was a 10-run 5th inning for Big Boys which was all started by a bloop single off the bat of Ethan K and a hard grounder up the middle by Jonah R. After these two hits, the Big Boys would pound 10 more in the inning, four of them by Jonah R and jumped out to a 13-2 lead. However, Battitudes did not give up. They scored two in the 6th on a Charlie V 323’ double to LCF, two more in the 7th as Charlie V continued to wreck baseballs with another long double and Kaileb H followed with a 2-run 347’ jack to LF. They added six in the 8th, three of them via a 2-out, 3-run double (91.8 mph EV) by Charlie V to close the Big Boys lead to 14-12. However, Big Boys responded with two insurance runs in the 8th as Ethan K singled, Jonah R doubled making it 15-12 and Sean J lasered a single to make the score 16-12. Battitudes tried to rally again in the 9th, but a 5-3 groundout ended it as the tying run watched from the on-deck circle.  Top Performers: (Battitudes-Hackman) Ryan T 7-for-13, 2B, 2 RBI. Charlie V 6-for-12, 6 2B, 6 RBI. Kaileb H 6-for-12, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI. (Big Boys) Sean J 9-for-15, 4 2B, 5 RBI. Ethan K 8-for-15, 5 RBI. Jonah R 6-for-14, 2B, 6 RBI.

Battitudes- Hackman 6, Renegades Blue-Schlipf 5
In what turned out to be the most exciting game of the evening, a back-n-forth affair saw Renegades Blue-Schlipf take a 5-3 lead into the final inning. Charlie V led off the 7th for the Battitudes with a 90.1 mph groundout, but Kaileb H singled to LF and the rally was on. Owen C then singled to LF, followed by another single by Ryan T which loaded the bases. Charlie V then got revenge on the HitTrax algorithms and smoked another baseball. This one jumped off his barrel at 88 mph and landed 329’ feet away in dead CF for a 3-run double and a 6-5 BA lead. To the bottom of the 7th we went where a Phillip H one out double gave RB some life. But two groundouts later he was stranded at 3rd and BA held on for a 6-5 W.  Top Performers: (Battitudes) Charlie V 4-for-8, 4 RBI. Owen C 4-for-9, 1 RBI. Backstreet Boys 12, Renegades Red-Lynch 1
It was all Backstreet Boys in this one as they scored 12 unanswered runs, with a crooked number 9-run 6th inning as the knockout blow. That inning began with a Max H leadoff double to LCF. Cade C then went oppo knock through the 4-hole and Gavin S scored Max H with a Sac Fly to RF. Then things got crazy. Drew S doubled to make it 5-0. Triple-B was hitless until Gavin S broke up the no-no in the bottom half of the 4th with a line drive single to RCF. Connor E 5-for-8, 2 RBI. (Big Boys) Jonah R 4-for-7.

RR countered with a Collin K leadoff double to start their half of the 5th, followed by an Oliver V base knock RBI and a long Rhett L single off the top of the Green Monster. When the 5th inning dust had settled, RR had pushed its lead to 5-1. For RB, Landon B's perfect 4-for-4 start at the plate ended with a hard hit F7 to start the 5th, but he came to bat again that same inning and laced an RBI single to LF cutting RR's lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the 6th Cash "my bat is long through the zone" T-R leadoff with a single. His knock was followed by two more singles by Landon B and Owen K to load 'em up. Charlie V got the scoring started for Hackman in the bottom of the 2nd with a 328’ RBI double with an 87.2 EV. He again found the barrel in the 3rd, almost knocking down the LF wall on a double via an 18 degree launch angle and a 90 mph EV, but he did not score and the game remained 1-0. A Caleb H groundout plated the first run for Hornbrook, tying it at 1 in the top of the 5th. To the 6th we went as Judah D stroked a leadoff double, which was followed by a single to LF by Caleb H. A Charlie V Sac Fly tied it a 2 in the bottom half of the 6th and a Judah D single to CF gave the lead back to Hornbrook in the top of the 7th. Hackman rallied to tie at 3 in the bottom half on a Ryan T double, followed by a Kalieb H single to RF and an Owen C liner to RCF, giving the Bat-Attitudes some free baseball with extra innings. That’s when Hackman put the pedal to the metal with a 6-run 8th. A two-run RBI single by Bodey K put the game out of reach at 8-3 and Judah D drove in another to produce the final margin of 9-3. Charlie V tried to make it interesting in the bottom of the 8th for Hackman, leading off with a 314’ blast with an 86.9 EV, but it was hauled in by the CF for the inning’s first out. Top Performers: (Hornbrook) Judah D 7-for-10, 3 RBI. In the 1st Caleb H, Bodey K and Austin K hit back-to-back-to-back RBI singles giving BA their initial 3-run cushion. RB pounded out 15 hits led by Crosby T (6-for-11, 2 RBI), Owen W (5-for-12, 2 RBI) and Owen K (4-for-12). Game 3 saw an offensive explosion by both clubs as Backstreet Boys took down Bat Attitudes- Hornbrook 12-10. The ballgame was a tight, back-n-forth affair throughout. The greatest damage was done in the 6th inning as Backstreet scored 5 runs to take a commanding 9-3 lead only to see the BAs bash 7 runs of their own to take a 10-9 lead. Backstreet then won it with a 3-spot in the top of the 7th and hung on in the bottom half when BA failed to score. For the winners Max H led the 16-hit attack with 6-for-12, 5 2B, 5 RBI night. In the final game of the evening the Big Boys Ball Busters erupted for 6 runs in the 5th, leading to a 7-1 W over Renegades Blue- Schlipf. NOV 8th
Opening weekend of the 12U-15U HitTrax League saw two extra inning ballgames and the first-ever Ks Academy HitTrax League home run when Charlie V blasted a long drive to left center field. The shot left the bat with an EV of 88.8 mph and traveled 344'.

The initial extra-inning contest took place in the first game of the evening as Renegades Red walked it off in the bottom of the 9th. Rhett L laced a fastball to center field for a triple, driving in a pair, leading RR to a 6-5 win over Bat Attitudes. After playing to a 2-2 score in the scheduled 7-inning ballgame, the offenses exploded in extras. Getting things going for the BA's was Bodey K who stroked a clutch two-out single in the 8th, driving in a pair and giving the BA's a 4-2 lead. However, RR quickly battled back, plating a pair of their own to tie it at 4 with a single by Nate R. When the dust had settled Caleb H (6-for-11, 3 XBH, 1 RBI) and Judah D (6-for-10, 2 RBI) led the BA offense while Collin K and Oliver V were both 5-for-10 for RR. Nate R and Rhett L also had 4 hits apiece for the victors who had a very balanced 18-hit attack.

In Game 2 another extra-inning ballgame ensued, this one a 0-0 tie after 7 between the Renegades Blue- Schlipf and Making Trax. The contest remained scoreless until the top of the 9th when Chase R doubled to left field, driving in a pair, giving RB a 2-0 lead. Trax failed to score in the bottom half allowing RB to secure a 2-0 W. The 11-hit RB attack was led by Crosby T (4-for-9) and Carson F (5-for-9) while Trax was limited to 5 hits, 4 of them off the bat of Connor E.

The third game was another close-knit affair that came down to the final at-bat for the Renegades Blue- Knox. However, they were unable to score in the bottom of the 7th and the Backstreet Boys hung onto a 4-3 W. RB outhit Backstreet 11 to 10 and leading the way for RB was Cash T-R (5-for-7, 1 RBI) who can really swing it. Sal G added 3 hits, while Owen K chipped in a pair of knocks. Leading Backstreet who started quickly, scoring all 4 of their runs in the first 3 innings was Cade C (4-for-9), while Max H and Drew S both went 3-for-10 with 2 RBI.

In addition to his bomb, Charlie V led the Battitudes (4-for-7, 4 RBI) as they cruised to a 5-0 W over the Big Boys Ball Busters in the final game of the evening. Owen K and Ryan T both went 3-for-7, while Kalieb H added a pair of hits for the 'tudes 12-hit attack. For Triple-B Busters there were plenty of hard hits, but just six base knocks in the 7-inning ballgame. Leading the offense was Gavin S (3-for-7) and Sean J (2-for-7).

RESULTS

NOV 1 PLAYOFFS:
In first-round playoff action #5 seed Macho Quatro battled #4 seed Dominators 2.0 in a slugfest. MQ put up a 3-spot in their last at-bat and the Doms responded with a pair of their own, but when the dust had settled, MQ emerged by a safety, 19-17. The 27-hit MQ attack was led by Ean K (8-for-12, 7 RBI) and Harry V (8-for-12, 5 RBI). In the other dugout for the Doms who had a 27-hit attack of their own, Sam "Triple" D was the big bat, collecting 9 hits in 12 at-bats which included 4 three-baggers and 8 RBI. Cole F, Cody L and Brayden B each had 6 hits and 3 RBI.

In the other quarterfinal bracket a lower scoring affair took place. The #3 seed Moonshots defeated the #6 seed Pony Giants by the final of 7-2. Ethan M dazzled for the 'Shots with a 7-for-9, 2 RBI effort. His 7 consecutive hits were a playoff record as the pitcher struggled to find a weak spot in his swing. Caleb R added 4 hits in 8 at-bats for the 'Shots. For the Pony Gs Landon L led the way with a 3-for-8 game, while Chase M and Aiden K added 2 hits a piece.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

After quarterfinal playoff action was complete, the evening turned to the HR Derby for a moment. The 12 finalists included Landon L, Aiden K, Rylan K, Nikos M, Noah O, Brevan S, Dylan R, Harry V, Ethan M and Cannon K. Each slugger received four outs to wallop as many long balls as possible. Advancing to the Finals were Cannon K with 9 bombs, Ethan M with 6 and Dylan R with 5 after he battled Harry V in a one-vs-one match-up for the final spot after they tied in the semifinals.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

With the HR Derby Champion now crowned, we turned our attention back to the semifinals where the regular season champions and #1 seed Bad News Bombers were hoping to cool off the Macho Quatro bats. That hope quickly faded as MQ continued to pound the baseball with a 6-run first inning, then adding 4 more in the second. In total they banged out 30 hits en route to an 18-8 W. For the victors Harry V stayed red hot (10-for-13, 9 RBI) while Nikos M (10-for-13, 3 RBI) had a big night out of the leadoff spot in the order. Finn C added a 7-for-12, 5 RBI performance for MQ. It wasn't all bad news for the Bombers who launched 20 hits of their own. Both Brevan S and Cannon K ripped 6 hits in 10 at-bats and Brenden D finished 5-for-10 with 2 RBI.

In the other semifinal the #2 seed Midwest Militia awaited the #3 seed Moonshots. In another back-n-forth battle, the Moonshots had just enough to hold off MM by the final of 11-9. Leading the 'Shots once again was Ethan M (7-for-9, 5 RBI) while Rocco C, Dylan R and Caleb R all collected 5 hits a piece. For MM who played with just a 3-man lineup in this one, the big bat belonged to Evan H who was 9-for-14 with a pair of missile doubles to CF and 3 RBI. Noah O (7-for-14, 3 RBI) and Rylan H (5-for-14, 3 RBI) also had big nights for MM.

Advancing to the finals of the first-ever Ks Training Academy World Series were the upstarts #5 seed Macho Quatro opposing the #3 seed Moonshots. In another great game MQ took a commanding 9-1 lead in the 4th inning on a bold move by lefty hitter Harry V who turned around and hit righty, then promptly scorched a liner into LF for an RBI. That confidence turned into nervousness as MQ had to hold their breath during a furious bottom of the 7th rally by the 'Shots. The 'Shots entered the inning trailing 14-5, but put together hit after hit to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs. With a swing resembling that of former Major League All-Star Will Clark, Dylan R hit a laser to first base, but it was snatched for the final out of the Series and MM won 14-12. Dylan R led the 22-hit Moonshot attack with an 8-for-11 effort, while Caleb R stayed hot (6-for-10, 4 RBI) and Rocco C collected 5 RBI with a 4-for-11 night. A well-balanced 23-hit attack was the key for the Ks WS Champion MQ as Harry V, Ean K and Finn C all went 6-for-11, and Nikos M added 5 hits in 11 at-bats to go along with more clutch hitting and 6 RBI.
